Bye Bye Polaroid

It's been a sad day today. I realised that Polaroid is no more. An institution in photography, not just for it's convenience and fun; but also creating a whole new genre in photography with its unique format, and somewhat etherial picture quality.

"The final batches of Polaroid film pass their expiry date on September 30 2009. When these supplies either spoil or run out, the world will lose something special."

This passing is being documented by My Last Polaroid, a poignant website dedicated to showcasing your last ever photo taken on Polaroid film. I've still got a few photos left to take, but you can be sure my last one will be special, and I'll post it up there.

DIY Dock

Here's a clever (and cheap!) alternative to those expensive Apple iPod/iPhone docks by Julien Madérou... Just get your scissors out!

Pretty Amazing

Well that's what I think of this work by Jan Vormann.

Part of an ongoing project, Dispatchwork sees Jan travelling the world to 'repair' cities with the humble Lego brick. Places that have been 'playfully conquered' (as he puts it) so far include Bocchignano, Tel Aviv, Berlin, Amsterdam, Belgrade, Arnsberg and St. Petersburg. And he has plans to do more... you may find one of these little wonders near you soon!

E17 Art Trail

I caught up with a couple of of friends of mine this weekend to see what they had been up to. It would appear quite a lot! As part of the annual E17 Art Trail held in and around London's Walthamstow they have built this fantastic installation in their back garden.

Sonya Sabbagh, a print maker/artist and Jade Myrie, who studies carpentry, have created a collaborative sculpture installation made from wood collected around the Walthamstow area, which also incorporates etchings and works on paper. It will be interesting to see how the installation evolves as it weathers the elements and becomes part of the surroundings in which it is built. Not to mention how the snails continue to take to it...

Tessellation from the Nation

...Of Morocco that is. I got a quite into all the beautiful tessellating patterns in Morocco whilst I was there recently. They're hard to miss as they adorn almost every surface, be it floor, wall or ceiling. A traditional style, yet the colourfulness and geometric patterns are echoed in all walks of contemporary design.

Matchbox Heaven

I've recently been salivating over this beautiful collection of Eastern European matchboxes on Flickr. Mainly from the 50's and 60's, these small wonders contain beautiful detail and communicate so much so simply. The bold, colourful design will definitely be inspiring me soon...

Morocco

A recent dream holiday to Morocco and photographic opportunities everywhere. From the seaside town of Essaouira to Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains, the sights, sounds and smells were a treat to the senses. I am so going back to this country.

21 Years Disney

To celebrate their 21st anniversary, the London Disney Headquarters commissioned me to create a mosaic style artwork with the iconic Mickey Mouse; using photos of staff and images of some people's favourite Disney movies to make up the mosaic.

Molly's Game

Hot off the press... Just finished the artwork for the debut EP from Brighton band Molly's Game. With music that's a mixture of electro and riot grrl, they're an eclectic bunch with many sides to their personalities; I think this cover truly reflects this.

The nice people at Fenner have just sent me this handy little booklet. It's an invaluable reference for all graphic designers detailing what you need to know about paper types, binding etc. Really beautifully designed too!

Zeixs Books... Published!

I've finally received copies of two of the recently published books in the Design Cube series by Zeixs. Here you can see one of my logo designs in all it's published glory, and the book below features a few posters.

From Iceland with Love

Wow. Iceland. A beautiful country with amazing countryside. Leave the capital, Reykjavik and looks like you're on the moon. Craters and mountains. Not to mention a few geysers. A great chance to try out my new camera. Reykjavik is a great city too. Small as it is, it's buzzing with culture and creativity. And of course quite a few cool bars and shops to be enjoyed.

Back in Action

Finally... new flat, laptop back, projects ahoy!

After a leak-disaster in my old flat, where my laptop was found sitting in a puddle in my living room; it has finally been brought back from the dead!

And now I'm in a lovely new flat (above)... so it's all gravy and there will actually be some new posts from me as I can do stuff - yay!
